Cat Lachowskyj is a Canadian freelance writer, editor and researcher based in Athens, Greece. Prior to pursuing a career in publishing, she trained as an archivist in Tkaronto, where her work on colonial photography and albums was funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. She has completed residencies and fellowships at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Archive of Modern Conflict, the Ryerson Image Centre, and the Rijksmuseum, and she holds an MA in Photography Preservation from Ryerson University.

Cat has written hundreds of articles for dozens of publications, and occupied full-time editing roles at Unseen Magazine and LensCulture. As a freelancer, Cat has written essays and afterwords for a number of artist books and compilations, including Ivana Marrone’s Riscatti, Martínez Bellido’s Emil and Une Histoire Mondiale Des Femmes Photographes, edited by Luce Lebart and Marie Robert. Cat also holds over five years of copy-editing experience across arts organizations, creative agencies, brands, and institutions. Past clients include Unseen Amsterdam, Vice, C&A, Photobook Week Aarhus, Virtue, the In-Out Centre Archives, CONTACT Photography Festival, and a number of independent artists and curators. She has guest lectured for photography and writing students in Canada, the US, and the Netherlands, coordinating workshops and facilitating exposure for emerging writers. Cat has also worked as a contract copy editor for fashion publications, including Zoo Magazine. She is currently the Editor of The Unless You Will Journal.
